It must be a challenge, otherwise it’s pretty pointless and your body won’t be inclined to make any changes.</p>

<p>You can tell this has been created by someone who knows their onions. Think about when you do some cardio. Whether it’s at the gym or in an aerobics class. When you start out, it nearly kills you. You’re sweating and out of breath. And your body aches for days. But the more you do the same workout, the easier it becomes. And that’s great right? Yeah, mostly. The thing is, your body becomes used to it. And you hit a plateau. And what’s the best way to get over that hump?</p>
<p>Interval training! That’s where Zumba is so great. The dance inspired fitness program is just chock full of interval style training. Fast, slow, fast again. It’ll keep you moving in a productive way. And there’s one more reason that it’s an absolutely brilliant method of getting fit and losing weight.</p>

<p>You’ll still need a healthy diet, drink even more water than you did previously (you’ll need it during the workouts, trust me) and I would still recommend a program of light weight lifting to tone and create lean muscle.<br />

<p>The fact is that people don’t always have a realistic viewpoint or outlook on their own physique.  Some people are blind to being overweight and some have the opposite problem.  They think they’re overweight when in fact they are perfectly well within normal and healthy weight limits.</p>
<p>One of the early warning signs is that you yourself think that you’re obese.  Much like I did, I didn’t pay a huge amount of attention.  I knew I wasn’t as fit as I was when I was a teenager, but then, who is?  I looked in a mirror one day and thought ‘OMG is that me?’  If you think you might be in need of losing weight then your first stop should be some scales. </p>
<p>Weight yourself and then measure your height, but you probably know that already and then work out your BMI.  Body Mass Index is an excellent way to tell if you are within safe/healthy guidelines.  And I stress that they are guidelines.  Everyone is different, but let’s not fool ourselves. The second way you’ll know is if people start telling you.  It could be anyone.  You go to the doctor for a check-up.  He weighs you and tell you that you should lose some weight.  He’s not doing that for his own health.  And apart from a medical professional there could be other people.</p>
<p>Family members.  Friends.  Passers-by (I know that sounds ridiculous but people often feel the need to comment on the weight of strangers).  Most people will be mentioning it because they feel that you should know and should lose weight.  Saying it more than once however may be insensitive.</p>
<p>How do your clothes feel on you?  Can you fit into the same pair of jeans you could a year ago.  Yup. Some of us keep jeans for more than a year J</p>
<p>If you find that you must buy new clothing in a bigger size, it’s probably time to lose some weight.</p>
<p>How are your fitness levels?  Unless you work-out a lot or play a lot of sports, you may not be as fit as a fiddle, especially if you have a sedentary type of job, but walking up a couple of flights of stairs shouldn’t tire you out totally.  If simple things cause you to be short of breath it might be an indication that you’re overweight.</p>
<p>If you experience any of the things above, I urge you to compare your weight to that of an average person or a BMI chart and if you’re above average, do something about it.</p>

<p>Well, there <em>are</em> foods that you should never eat.  Or hardly ever.  And if you&#8217;re making a habit of eating some of these foods then what you may literally be doing is swapping your enjoyment of life, of being thin, of being confident, for your love of food.</p>
<p>And I&#8217;m betting that you don&#8217;t want to do that.</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t lose weight by waving a magic wand, but steering clear of a few varieties of food and replacing them with healthier options is an excellent start!</p>
<h2>Foods To Never Eat</h2>

<p><strong>Sugar</strong></p>
<p>When you think about sugar, you think &#8216;sweet&#8217; and yes, it&#8217;s sweet.  And it&#8217;s deadly.  It&#8217;s also completely devoid of any nutritional value.</p>
<p>When you think about food, is it for fuelling your body and keeping you strong and healthy?  Or is it to make you feel happy and reward yourself?  If the latter, I&#8217;m betting you eat a lot of sugar and I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if you were overweight and unhappy about it.</p>
<p>When you ingest sugar you&#8217;re simply wasting your time from a fuel point of view.  It may well give you a short term energy burst but it&#8217;s also going straight to your hips, in the form of fat. You are much better off getting your carbohydrates from a better, healthier source.</p>
<p>The problem you have is that sugar is everywhere, it&#8217;s part of our culture and has been for hundreds of years.  We reward children with candy for being good.  You can&#8217;t do that with a carrot, unless you have a really well trained child.  We put it in coffee, in our breakfast cereal, in nearly every snack we eat and in foods you would never believe contain sugar.</p>
<p>It has been linked with cancer, depression and osteoporosis.  Sugar is bad news.  It took me almost 6 months to get used to coffee with no sugar, I virtually had to learn to love coffee again in a different way.</p>

<p><strong>Artificial Sweeteners</strong></p>
<p>So, you can&#8217;t eat sugar.  What&#8217;s the next best thing to make your food sweet?  Yeah, sweetener.</p>
<p>It tastes terrible.  Like you&#8217;re eating straight-up chemicals.  And the reason for that is that it actually is a bunch of lab concocted chemicals.</p>
<p>I know you&#8217;re cursing me know, because you&#8217;ll never touch another sweet thing in your life.  Give it a couple of days and then eat an apple.</p>
<p>I would say that most people know the rumors that sweetening agents may be carcinogens, but did you know that they also can contribute to</p>
<ul>
<li>Mental Disorders</li>
<li>Migraines</li>
<li>Stress and Anxiety</li>
<li>Brain Tumors</li>
<li>Alzheimers</li>
<li>Panic Attacks</li>
<li>Depression</li>
</ul>
<p>Actually the list goes on, but I got depressed writing about it.  Skip the sweeteners sweetie!</p>
<p><strong>Processed Foods</strong></p>
<p>This is a big umbrella I know.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s true to say that convenience foods save us time, money and prevent us from being good cooks, but is all that a good reason to avoid them?</p>
<p>The best reason to eat the most natural foods possible is that processed foods are causing that pot bellied, double chinned look that more and more people are getting.  They&#8217;re the ones causing you to feel sluggish at night.  The ones that make you hungry 90 minutes after you ate.</p>
<p>Ever heard of trans fat?  It&#8217;s the worst type of fat you could eat.  It&#8217;s like heart disease waiting to happen.  Avoid at all costs.  But you can&#8217;t if you eat too many types of processed foods.</p>
<p>Apart from all the fat and sugar in these foods, there are the chemicals.  People very carefully check the food they give to their children but then eat cakes and donuts like it&#8217;s their last days on the planet.  Chemical additives are not good for you.  They cause all sorts of negative effects in your body.  For a single example, check out the list above.</p>
<p>Buying fresh, cooking for yourself and eating heartily and healthily is one of the biggest game changers ever.  You&#8217;ll lose weight, look bright eyed and clear skinned, you&#8217;ll learn how to cook and feel more satisfied.  Or you can sit down with a microwave meal in front of the TV.</p>

The first one is that if you do enough sit ups you’ll get an awesome six pack. Untrue. The second is that getting rid of your body fat is all about reducing your calorie intake. Closer to the truth but not 100% right.</p>
<p>The big reason that people have an excess of abdominal fat is that they are eating the wrong foods. Processed foods with toxins, e-numbers and who knows what else doesn’t get digested correctly by your body. They also contain massive amount of calories and all of this horrible mix ends up as pointless fat on your stomach.</p>
<p>You can be slim all over and still have a pot belly if your diet is poor. You need to flush those toxins from your body and be careful what you put inside your body. Cut down on your carbs and especially processed and white carbs.</p>
<p>What you need in your diet are natural foods. I’m not saying you can never eat a pizza again but the average person’s intake of this sort of food could be greatly reduced without them being hampered at all.</p>
<p>The good thing about changing to mostly natural foods is that you won’t then have to obsessively record and monitor your calorie intake.</p>
<h2>Ways To Lose Belly Fat</h2>

<strong>Fat</strong></p>
<p>Everyone knows that fat is one of the things that you should avoid in your diet. That’s not true for all fats of course, but the majority of fat is unhelpful when you’re trying to get a flat stomach.</p>
<p>Healthy fats improve the look of your skin, your immune system, your heart and help you to feel full. They’re an absolutely essential part of a healthy, balanced diet.</p>
<p>Olive oil, oil from fish like sardines and mackerel, nuts and seeds and avocado, is all truly beneficial in moderation.</p>
<p><strong>Carbohydrates</strong></p>
<p>Carbs are the new enemy. Even though it’s too many carbs that is the problem and not the mere presence of them, people have zeroed in on this as a cause of obesity. Let’s not fool ourselves here. Being overweight isn’t the fault of the food you eat, but how much you eat of it and your own bad habits.</p>
<p>Carbs help us gain weight and useless fat by being adept at being digested and absorbed very quickly triggering the release of insulin that cause you to be hungry. This is particularly evident in simple carbs like white rice, white pasta, sugars, pastry and other baked items. These are the kiss of death for a flat stomach so please limit your intake of these items.</p>
<p>Again, as with fats, you do need carbohydrates in your diet, so if possible, try to eat the more complex varities which aren’t digested so rapidly. Things such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Vegetables</li>
<li>Fruit</li>
<li>Beans</li>
<li>Pulses</li>
</ul>
<p>Generally the higher the fibre the better. So if you must eat breakfast cereal, Bran based ones are better than sugary, wheaty ones.</p>
<p>As an added bonus, the higher the fibre content, the more full you feel for longer.</p>
<p><strong>Protein</strong></p>
<p>Protein contains the building blocks of a diet used to promote muscle growth. Protein naturally burns off more calories while being processed by your body than any other food type which is a boon in and of itself. It helps you feel fuller longer more than any other food and may contain a very low amount of calories.</p>
<p>Many proteins may also contain high amount of animal fat which isn’t always great when you eat a lot of it. Getting your protein from nuts, legumes, poultry and free range eggs is an excellent addition to your eating plan.</p>
